Polycarbonate is one of the strongest, toughest and clearest polymers available. It is commonly used in products such as safety goggles, bulletproof glass, and demanding engineering components.
PC is a high temperature plastic, and can withstand temperatures way in excess of ABS or PLA, if you need to print something to hold up in the heat PC is the way to go. PC prints very nicely indeed with great interlayer bonding and clean free extrusion - great for super-strong super-precise parts. We've produced some of the strongest objects we've ever printed with this stuff, such as heavy duty hinges and GoPro mounts that have withstood a ski season.
PC needs to be printed hot - from 280C-310C, and with a bed temperature of 110C or more. So if you don't have an all metal hotend then turn away now! Bed adhesion can be achieved with Kapton, UHU Glue, or ABS Juice. If you're feeling adventurous you can also make PC-Juice which is much like ABS-Juice but using methylene chloride (Dichloromethane) and bits of PC filament.
