Description

These high-quality hardened 3D printing nozzles are designed specifically for use with Prusa’s latest extruder – Nextruder. Compatible with Prusa’s MK4 and XL 3D printers, they feature an all-metal filament guide which means that Nextruder’s filament path is entirely metal. This helps improve overall printer reliability and enables speedier nozzle changing.

With a wear resistance that is orders of magnitude higher than any other E3D nozzle, ObXidian is really hard, making it the perfect nozzle for printing abrasive/filled polymers with. This is achieved by pairing a tool steel insert with our E3DLC™ coating. This specially formulated coating also embeds non-stick properties into the Nozzle itself, resulting in considerably less plastic build-up around the Nozzle.

Simplified nozzle changing. Changing a nozzle on your Prusa printer just got much easier! Waste less time changing your nozzles and more time experimenting with different sizes and materials.

Easy identification. Each Nozzle has its size engraved into it.

Please note:

  • ObXidian™ coated nozzles are exceptionally wear resistant compared to other products on the market and significantly outperform other hardened nozzles. Improvements in ‘exotic’ engineering filaments mean that some new materials which include aggressive fillers, including but not limited to Polymaker’s Fiberon range (PA612-CF, PA6-CF, PA6-GF and PA12-CF), can cause significant wear on even ObXidian nozzles. E3D is actively developing even more specialist solutions for these materials. In the meantime please be aware that even the rainbows and unicorns in your ObXidian nozzle are not everlasting under extreme material conditions.
  • Some filled materials contain particles that are close to, if not larger than, some of the smaller industry standard nozzle sizes, including up to 0.4mm. Attempting to print such materials through these nozzle sizes significantly increases the risk a jam. Please check your filament manufacturer’s datasheet for recommended minimum nozzle orifice diameter to ensure that the nozzle/hotend you choose is suitable for your use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to wear an ObXidian Nozzle?

  • UV-reactive/ “glow in the dark” filaments include an additive called Strontium Aluminate. Strontium Aluminate is very hard. So hard, in fact, that when printed at very high movement speeds, the deposited layers begin to work like sandpaper. We’ve found these conditions to be capable of removing the E3DLC coating and therefore can have a permanent impact on the wear resistance of the nozzle.
  • We’re not saying you need to totally avoid using glow in the dark. We’ve successfully run multiple kilograms of glow in the dark filament through an ObXidian Nozzle without seeing any impact to the nozzle's performance. Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than wear being proportional to speed, but we’ve been using the Prusa MK3S+ with the 0.2 Quality settings with good success for most model geometries. If in doubt, print slow.

What is the maximum temperature I can print with ObXidian?

  • 300°C
