About Us

Our Mission:

To change the way humanity manufactures goods

At E3D, we’re not just a company; we’re a bunch of passionate 3D printing enthusiasts on a mission to change the way that humanity manufactures goods.

Our products are all about giving makers, engineers, and dreamers the tools they need to bring their ideas to life – whether it’s a simple DIY project, or cutting-edge industrial prototyping.

We’re driven by the belief that anyone can create something incredible with the right tools, and we’re here to make sure those tools are the best they can be.

Our Partners

We’re immensely proud of the long-standing relationships we’ve built with industry leaders like Prusa, Bambu Lab, and Creality. Our team works tirelessly to deliver on our promise of making 3D printing better for their customers.

Being officially approved by these companies means our products are trusted, reliable, and fully compatible – so you can buy with confidence without worrying about voiding your warranty.

Our History

2012

In the beginning

Location: Dave’s bedroom, Isle of Wight. Sanjay and Dave, full time teachers, excitedly got their hands on one of the first Mendel 90’s heralding from Adrian Bowyer and Rep Rap Pro. Instantly falling in love with the hobby, they began to make their own modifications and parts, quickly noticing that there was a lack of well-made HotEnds.

2012

The V4 HotEnd

Using the machining tools at their school, the pair created the V4 HotEnd. When the first batch sold out within 48 hours they thought perhaps there might be something in this whole 3D printing malarkey and decided to give teaching a break. It was at this point that their old friend Josh (engineering and coding genius) joined the pair to make it 3.

2013

Multi-Extrusion

This was the year of multi-extrusion when Kraken, Cyclops and Chimera (all now discontinued) were added to the ecosystem.

2014

The E3D V6

Perfecting the design they’d been working on for years the now industry-standard V6 was released. Compared to the V5 it offered decreased bulk by bringing fin spacing closer together, a slimmer design, a smaller heater block, and improved performance.

2015

BigBox

Local professional maker and engineer Greg shows the boys his latest brainchild: a large-volume, hackable 3D printer for enthusiasts and tinkerers! Realising its potential, the guys worked together to set up the BigBox Kickstarter, which was funded in an incredible 5 hours, raising £262,143!

2016

Prusa Joins the Party

Josef Prusa takes on the V6 as the HotEnd for i3 MK2, rapidly becoming the biggest 3D printer-manufacturer to include the V6 as standard.

2017

Titan Aero

Since smashing into the world of extruders with Titan back in March 2016, the next logical step was to integrate a HotEnd into it, compress it as much as possible and make an ultra-compact all-in-one extruder and HotEnd and thus Titan Aero (now discontinued) was born.

2017

Water Cooling

December brings a complete, compact water-cooling kit as well as the Titan Aqua: a water-cooled cousin to the Titan Aero. These parts bring water-cooling for 3D printing within reach for many hobbyists. These products are now discontinued.

2017

Nozzle X

Nozzle X joins the E3D nozzle range. With a layer of hard, slick nickel plating plus E3D's NEW WS2 nano coating which means that with one of these bad boys users never have to worry about hot molten polymers sticking their nozzles again.

2018

SuperVolcano

A seriously hot upgrade! Boasting up to 11x the volumetric throughput of our V6, SuperVolcano allows users to print BIGGER, stronger, and faster than ever before!

2019

The E3D ToolChanger

E3D developed a (now discontinued) tool-changing research development platform that allowed up to 4 (multi-material/multi-function) tools (imagine lasers, subtractive tools, pick & place, paste extruders, cameras and anything else you can dream up), to be utilised during a single print.

2020

Hemera

Hemera is an all-metal, dual-drive extrusion system that allows users to push the boundaries of flexible printing. This compact unit features a highly constrained filament path, an optimised heatsink design, a custom motor and convenient T Slots for mounting.

2021

RapidChange Revo

This revolutionary new ecosystem allows Prusa, Creality, and Voron users to easily change their nozzles in under 30 seconds, using only their fingers tips!

2022

ObXidian

With a wear resistance that is orders of magnitude higher than any other E3D nozzle, ObXidian is really hard. A tool steel insert is paired with our E3DLC™ coating which embeds non-stick properties into the nozzle itself, meaning considerably less plastic build-up for pristine, clog-free prints.

2023

Revo High Flow

Revo High Flow maintains the exact same form factor as standard Revo HotEnds so users can plug in and play without the need for time-consuming adjustments. Revo™ High Flow uses a unique custom (spaceshippy) internal geometry to increase the surface area for improved thermal transfer to the filament.

2023

Extrusion Evolves with Roto

At just 140g and outputting 60N+ of extrusion force, Roto is one of the most power dense extruders on the market. Its 3D printed metal design provides the most thermally efficient heatsink to date.

2024

Bambu Lab X1/P1 Upgrades

ObXidian High Flow HotEnds made available on the E3D and Bambu Lab webstores for the X1/P1 series. These simple upgrades provide an additional 60% flowrate compared to the standard Bambu HotEnd as well as the non-stick and super wear resistant properties that ObXidian users have come to know and love.

2025

Bambu A1 & A1 Mini Upgrades

High Flow ObXidian and DiamondBack HotEnds unlock speedy printing with abrasive materials for A1 and A1 Mini users. A drop-in replacement upgrade that only takes a couple of minutes to install but enables you to print for hours and hours without the need for maintenance.

2025

ObXiDian 500 : Next-level Nozzle Coating

With the ability to print ANY filament up to 500°C and a wear-resistance to make your stock nozzle tremble in its boots, ObXiDian 500 (available for Bambu Lab, Prusa, and Revo ecosystems) becomes the ultimate upgrade for serious 3D printing fans.

Our Support

Sanjay Mortimer Foundation

Sanjay Mortimer Foundation

We’re very proud to support the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation (SMF),
a charity founded in memory of our Co-Founder Sanjay Mortimer. The SMF’s
mission is to ‘to help those with neurodivergent minds, recognise their
strengths and talents, through engineering and making’, something that we are extremely passionate about.

If you know a young person who could benefit from the SMF's tailored support then you can find more information on eligibility and the application process here.

F1 in Schools – Apex F1

F1 in Schools – Apex F1

Since 2023, we have supported ‘Apex Racing’, a local Oxfordshire STEM racing team from Matthew Arnold School. This talented group of young engineers have earned numerous awards for their innovative designs and even reached the UK national finals!

Their car 'MAS 25' is manufactured from a low density polyurethane block the car weighs only 48g and travels up to 40mph, powered by only a CO2 Canister. Follow their journey here.

Volunteering

Volunteering

At E3D, we believe strong communities are built through active involvement and shared responsibility. That’s why we give every team member dedicated volunteering days each year - creating meaningful time to support local causes, contribute skills and effort where they’re needed most, and give back to the communities around us.

Here are some of our team volunteering at the annual Sanjay Mortimer RepRap Festival.
