Batch.Works and E3D Unveil UK Partnership with Support from Government Funding

Press Release

In a collaboration led by Batch.Works, the two companies aim to revolutionise sustainable additive manufacturing with breakthrough technologies, supported by the prestigious Smart Grant competition under Innovate UK.

London, UK – January 8, 2025
Batch.Works, a leader in circular manufacturing, and E3D, an award-winning innovator in 3D printing technology, announce a pioneering partnership aimed at reshaping the additive manufacturing (AM) industry. This transformative collaboration is powered by funding from the UK government’s Smart Grant competition under Innovate UK.

Driving Industry Transformation

The project, "Accelerating Sustainable Additive Manufacturing Solutions," combines the strengths of Batch.Works and E3D to create advanced, scalable, and sustainable 3D printing technologies. Central to this initiative is a Batch.Works AI-enabled 3D printer that incorporates innovative components designed by E3D. This cutting-edge printer is tailored for local production and sustainability, achieving:

  • 70% reduction in assembly time
  • 70% fewer components
  • 85% reduction in carbon emissions

Julien Vaissieres, CEO of Batch.Works, commented:
"Our partnership with E3D represents a pivotal step forward in sustainable manufacturing. Together, we are pushing boundaries to set a new standard for efficiency and environmental responsibility in the 3D printing sector."

James Haywood, Managing Director of E3D, added:
"This collaboration is about more than innovation—it’s about making sustainability central to the way products are designed and manufactured. We’re excited to deliver solutions that not only meet the needs of today’s market but also pave the way for a more responsible future. This is one step further towards achieving our vision ‘to change the way humanity manufactures goods"

Innovation Backed by Circularity

This partnership goes beyond technological advancements, embedding sustainability at its core with a Circular Manufacturing-as-a-Service (CMaaS) model. This model ensures that 3D printers and their components are designed for repair, refurbishment, and recycling, creating a fully circular production ecosystem. The CMaaS approach aligns directly with the UK’s Net Zero ambitions, showcasing how manufacturing can adapt to the demands of a greener economy.

A Vision for the Future

The collaboration sets its sights on establishing the UK’s largest distributed smart factory network, reshaping the landscape of local production. By combining decentralized manufacturing with cutting-edge technologies, the partnership will position the UK as a leader in sustainable and innovative additive manufacturing, empowering industries and businesses nationwide.
