Description

Silicone Volcano socks offer a huge boost in temperature stability, this particularly important when using high-airflow cooling around the nozzle to cool the print. The additional cooling, combined with reduced heat radiation from the block to the print really boosts the ability to print great overhangs and bridges, all while keeping the HotEnd temperature extremely stable.

Made from an inherently non-stick high-temperature silicone, these socks help keep your nozzles and block free from plastic residue.

We supply the socks in a 3 pack because while they are designed to be as durable as possible, they will eventually wear away or perish. Your mileage will vary depending on the temperatures used and the materials you print with.

Its works, not much else to say. I've had one time where plastic made its way inside the sock but you just flex the silicone when cool and it comes off easily. Looks like it is too small when cool but it expands as it heats up, so it fits proper when hot. I've never had it slip off or even move mid print for 100+ hours of printing. Could still happen, but its on there pretty good because the volcano is so long there's a lot of friction holding it in place. The little tabs on the top are a little fragile, I tore one off when i pulled it off to clean it. These are expendable items though so I don't see that as an issue.

This sock looks like a side project by someone at E3D who knows little about mechanical things. I bought this thing and installed it on my Volcano hot end on my MK3S and immediately saw its flaws. First, it doesn't attach properly to the top of the hot end and eventually slides down, to where it drops below the nozzle tip, interfering with it's functioning. Second -- as such there is no reason for this "sock" to cover the bottom of the hot end around the nozzle. All that does is invite melted filament from particularly aggressive experimental prints to get inside the sock. This feature results in a goopy mess inside the sock yet and another thing to clean off before the next print. Third -- heat rises and so there's no reason to have a bottom part to the sock at all, thus eliminating the problem of stray melted filament from getting in there and accumulating and requiring me to remove the stupid thing to get it clean and get hot end ready again. I just clipped the bottom away with a pair of scissors and had no more issues with it interfering with the nozzle by it being in the way of the print. Honestly, this thing is so poorly designed also by there being these piddly "clasps" at the top that attempt to hold the sock from falling down. I mean. if they actually used this thing to see how it works they would never be selling it now, Buyer beware; get your scissors out and be ready to fiddle.
